Try-Out FAQs:

1) What is the difference between a competition and recreation class?

A: Great question! Our recreation classes are a great warm up for Comp teams! They can help dancers learn basic dance skills, technique and memorize routines -- and get all their jitters out when performing in front of a live audience!

Comp Teams take it a step further and meet 2-3 days a week from anywhere to 3.5-9 hours a week depending on age! This extra time and practice takes their skills and abilities to a higher level much more quickly due to the increase in focus, time and practice.

2) How much is it to be on a Comp Team?

A: Another GREAT question! Cost depends on the amount of hours your dancer will be dancing. This all depends on skill level and team placement. Our Elite teams do cost more, as they perform at an additional competition, and have other performances scheduled during the year. Competition Dancers are required to purchase team-wear for practices and a team jacket. Competition Dancers pay more for costumes as they are more tailored for their dances, and of course competitions. More detailed information on costs will be available after tryouts.

3) How many Competitions do they attend, and are they local?

A: This year we will be attending 3 Competitions (4 for Elite teams). Most of the time they are no further than Draper or Logan. Sometimes we go as far as St. George, but more information will come if that is the case.

4) Is there a fee to tryout?

A: Yes, there is a $30 tryout fee per dancer and a $30 registration fee for the year

5) Are there summer classes for Comp Teams? When does the season start?

A: Once tryouts are over, we hold a2-day intensives with required attendance during the month of June. Days/times will be made available soon. There is a cost for intensives, and they are mandatory. If you have scheduled a vacation during your team's time, we will hold a makeup day that will be required to attend. Intensive fees are still mandatory and will not be pro-rated based on attendance.

A: Our dance season for Comp Teams starts the first week in August.

6) What about attendance?

A: We will have a team commitment letter for you to read and sign at the time of intensives. There will be fines for excessive absences and re-spacing fees if you are not committed to being in attendance to your classes. We expect you to be committed to your team once you make the decision to tryout. The team is only as strong as its weakest member. Please plan on putting forth your best effort. More info to come.

7) Are comp teams super strict?

A: Competition teams are structured in a way that facilitate learning and growth in technique and skill level. But this doesn't mean we don't have fun too! When your dancer is with their team day after day and week after week, friendships grow! We encourage team parties, and get togethers as often as they want. And sometimes teachers will throw a little pizza party of their own when they have worked super hard! Parents are always welcome to bring a treat for the team too! We love to make RW a place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves from all the yucky stuff outside our walls. We want to facilitate a place of love and friendship as much as possible. We love our parents to be involved in that! It takes a village!!

8) How old do I have to be to tryout?

A: Our ages are Pre-k to 18! For the littles, we just recommend some sort of previous dance class prior to joining a comp team. Hours get long for the littles, and we want to make sure they are developed enough to withstand the extra dance time.

9) What skill levels are there?

A: We offer teams for all skill levels. Novice through Advanced!

10) What if I am placed on a different team from my friend?

A: It's ok!! Teams literally change every single year. Each team has new people to meet and make friends with. We PROMISE you will love it! Some of our classes even perform a dance together! We ask that you be open to the opportunity to meet new people and build new friendships.
