Competition Etiquette

Hi Rhythm Works Families,

We are so excited for competition season! Here is a quick refresh on expectations to help everything run smoothly:

  • Dancers must be fully ready and at the competition an HOUR AND A HALF before their scheduled dance time.

  • Glitter may NOT be applied inside the venue. Please apply glitter before arriving or outside. If we get fined we will pass that along to parents.

  • If you are making team gifts for competitions, the Rhythm Works logo may NOT be used. You are not allowed to sell any items with "Rhythm Works" on them.

  • Cheer for everyone! All the dancers performing have worked so hard throughout the year.

  • Support the entire studio and keep all comments positive — especially during awards. Placement is based on judges’ opinions. We expect our dancers to perform their best and are so proud of them regardless of placement. If a dance doesn't do as well, use it as a learning opportunity not a complaining one.

  • No parent's backstage. Please do not interrupt coaches while they are working. This includes team moms. You are not allowed backstage but will watch routines from the audience.

  • You may record your own daughter's performance AS LONG AS THE COMPETITION DOES NOT HAVE RULES AGAINST IT. Please do not post full dance routines on Social Media as it is the right of the choreographer.

  • Dancers must wear team jackets upon arrival and during awards (team and solo!). Dancers will not be allowed on stage during awards without team jackets!!

  • Be kind to all staff (Competition and RW) and help where needed. Competitions are long days for everyone. Please be respectful. If you have any problem with the competition, let us know and we will work directly with them. But if you have something you love about a competition, please share it with their staff! A small compliment goes a long way:)

  • We have parents with multiple dancers and coaches with multiple classes. If you see someone looks lost or in need of a hand, help them out!

  • Keep dressing areas clean, organized, and all costumes labeled. Remember to leave your area better than you find it.

  • Absolutely no men in dressing room areas.

PACKING REMINDERS

Pin all costumes! Even if you don't think you need it. We do not want any wardrobe issues on stage.

• Clean, secure bun with hair net, bobby pins, and no flyaways. Use hairspray and gel!!

• Proper undergarments: skin-tone bra with clear straps and nude (or assigned) seamless underwear. If dancers are wearing any bra or underwear that are not permitted they will be asked to remove them.

• Use butt glue correctly (let it get tacky first).

All dancers MUST wear lipstick, blush/bronzer, mascara. Older dancers should include eyeshadow, eyeliner, and fake eyelashes to help with the harsh stage lights.

• Two shoes or no shoes (if approved).

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Dancers must attend all classes the week of competition, including technique. Dancers that are not in class the week of competition will be removed immediately. Excessive absences will result in spacing changes and fees. Competition season requires full commitment.

• Some coaches may be scheduling additional dance practices for their teams, so please keep in mind that this is a possibility.

Most importantly, Have fun with the long days!! Take a lot of pictures share them to BAND and your social media! And don't forget to live fully in the moment, it all goes by way too fast!
